While technologically sophisticated, the forestry industry understands that employees, landowners, end users and the broader community are core to its business. Understanding the value and the opportunities that the industry brings to the region for people is a priority of the Central West Hub.
Employers understand their employment and skills gaps very well, however, information regarding the broader issues faced by the industry is not available. The Hub has undertaken a direct survey of employers within the Hub to collect data on their current employment figures and describe assess to skills and training concerns. This data will assist employers formulate long term plans to address skill shortages and plan for future needs.
A report has been prepared by respected economists BDO in conjunction with the University of Canberra. The results show that the forestry industry is an economic powerhouse for the Central West and the lifeblood of one of NSW’s most sustainable and vibrant small country towns.
